At IIBT Campus, we believe that meaningful education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. Our third field visit was a perfect example of this belief in action — blending academic insight with industry exposure and a touch of exploration.
This time, our journey took us to two significant industrial locations. The first stop was the Ampara District General Hospital construction site, where students witnessed the real-time development of a large-scale public infrastructure project. Equipped with safety gear, our students stepped onto the site under the supervision of the consultant and the contractor quantity surveyors from CECB, observed the ongoing work, and learned about key construction processes directly from industry professionals. The supervising engineers and quantity surveyors on site were incredibly supportive, explaining everything from material management to cost control practices and how these apply to healthcare projects.
Our second major visit was to the Lanka Cement Factory in Hambantota. This gave students a rare opportunity to explore the core of the cement manufacturing process — a fundamental material in construction. From raw material handling to kiln operations and quality control, students gained a clear understanding of how cement is made and how it reaches construction sites around the country.
To make the trip more memorable and refreshing, we also explored some of the cultural and scenic treasures of Sri Lanka. The students visited the historic Galle Fort, walking along the centuries-old ramparts, and spent relaxing moments at the beautiful Jungle Beach, soaking in the natural beauty and enjoying quality time together as a team.
This field trip was not just an academic experience — it was a complete journey of exposure, bonding, and broadening horizons. The combination of construction site visits, factory exposure, and leisure exploration made this an unforgettable chapter in the student experience at IIBT Campus.
As always, we are proud to see our students growing through every opportunity, gaining the confidence and competence they need to thrive in the field of quantity surveying. Stay connected with us for more inspiring updates from our learning adventures!
